Flight from Canada to Berlin
Welcome to Berlin, Germany‘s biggest, most diverse and most exciting city. After checking into our hotel we have enough time to get a first impression by strolling through some of the colourful neighbourhoods, Germany‘s capital is famous for.
We start with a visit to the German Parliament (Bundestag) with a sweeping view over the city from its glass dome. Afterwards we visit the nearby Holocaust Museum and the famous Brandenburger Tor. From here we walk along “Unter den Linden“, Berlin’s most elegant boulevard into former East Berlin with the Alexanderplatz. A short walk gets us to Prenzlauer Berg, a popular neighbourhood which combines a stunning mix of old pre-war architecture and luscious, green parks and some of the city‘s most highly praised cafes and restaurants.
Today’s excursion gets us to Potsdam, the “little sister of Berlin”, situated 25 km southwest. Schloss Sanssouci, the private retreat of King Friedrich II. is a rococo jewel that sits daintily above vine-draped terraces. A guided tour leads us through the lavish rooms of this world heritage site. Upon our return to Berlin we take it easy and soak up the atmosphere of this fascinating city, at Kurfürstendam, in the centre of town.
A short drive south brings us to Dresden – known as “Florence on the Elbe”. Frauenkirche, Semper Opera House, Zwinger Palace and the castle are just a few highlights of this astonishing Baroque city, which we will discover Germany From the Berlin Wall to BMW on a guided tour led by a local expert. Later we visit the “Kunsthofpassage“, an innovative architectual project, of fi ve connecting courtyards with quaint cafes, artist studios and handicraft shops.
On our way from Dresden to Munich we stop in Nuremberg, Bavaria‘s second largest city. Despite being an old city with impressive medieval architecture it is most famous for its time as one of the main sites of the Nazi Regime. We visit the Zeppelinfeld where most of the big Nazi parades took place. In the Documentation Centre we get an in-depth-tour documenting the rise and fall of the NSDAP. Upon arrival in Munich, we get a first impression of the capital of Bavaria on a short city walk.
Despite being the third biggest German city Munich has kept a small-town feel with it’s medieval city centre, world famous Oktoberfest and traditional heritage. Here the motto “best of both worlds” seems reality, as the wealthy and proud city combines old time charm with high-tech-success. We explore the many sights of this most liveable city in Germany on an extended city walk, which includes all the major sights like the Viktualienmarkt, the city hall with it’s glockenspiel, the Marienplatz and the medieval Frauenkirche. In the afternoon we make an excursion into the darkest chapter of German history by visiting the concentration camp of Dachau on the outskirts of Munich.
Today’s excursion into the picturesque countryside south of Munich get’s us to the world famous castle of Neuschwanstein. The fairytale fantasy by King Ludwig with it’s perfect location overlooking lakes and gardens rates amongst the most iconic images in the world. On our way back to Munich we stop in some of the picturesque villages along the way.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Let’s finish our trip in style, by driving along the Romantic Road through picturesque villages and pristine countryside, to one of the most enchanting cities of Germany. A walk along the cobblestoned, winding alleys of Rothenburg, one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in Germany, makes you feel like in the medieval times. Our last dinner will be in a typical bavarian brewhouse.
