Lean back and enjoy your flight from Canada to Italy.
Buon giorno Italy
Arriving in Milan our tour guide meets us. We head straight to Verona where we will spend the first night. For many Verona is known as the setting of Romeo and Juliet but it offers much more. In the evening we get a guided tour making Verona by night, one of our first impressions of Italy. We will see the Arena di Verona, Castelvecchio, the Arco dei Gavi and the Borsari gate.
The world is a stage
We say good bye to Verona and head to Venice. We make a stop in Vincenza for a city tour and a visit at the Teatro Olimpico which with its almost 500 year old stage set. We also visit Villa Capra, another of Palladio’s works, before continuing to Venice where we will spend the night.
A watery world
In Venice we start with a city tour getting our bearings in this unusual city. With no cars it is a different world. We will see the Marcus Square and the San Marcos Cahtedral, the Doge Palace as well as the Rialto bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. In the evening we move away from the trodden parts of Venice and dine in a typical Trattoria
A world of glass
No trip to Venice is complete without visiting the three neighbouring islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. On Murano we will visit a glass factory and watch why this island has become so famous for its glasswares. Burano will offer another highlight of the day with its beautiful coloured houses and spectacular setting.
After breakfast we enjoy our bus ride through the beautiful scenery of Andalusia to Cordoba. Along the way we make a few photo stops.
After arrival we visit the mesmerizing Mezquita. With it’s 856 arches it is a stunning reminder of the Moorish culture when Cordoba was the capital of Islamic Spain. Afterwards we explore the old part of the city where every street and place seems to tell a story of the glorious past.
We leave Venice and head south towards Ravenna, an absolute highlights. Capital of the Western Roman Empire back in the 5th century it is impossible to exaggerate the importance of this city. Most cities are happy with one UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ravenna has eight. The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia and The Basilica of San Vitale are just two of the highlights. All good things come to and end but leaving Ravenna is made easier by knowing that Florence is next on the itenary.
The heart of Tuscany
On our first day in Florence we get a city tour allowing us to understand why this treasure trove of art and architecture attracts so many visitors each year. We will see San Marco, San Lorenzo, Ponte Vecchio as well as Piazza della Signoria and the town hall Palazio Vecchio. However, the Batistry and the cathedral are highlights and will climb the 463 steps up into the dome.
A day in Siena
Today’s program is a full day excursion to Siena, yet another city whose history and architecture makes Italy loved by visitors. Our city tour will take us past the main square and the Duomo. Other memorable attractions are the Baptistry and The Complex of Santa Maria della Scala, one of Europe’s oldest holspitals which today houses many important works of art.
From a leaning tower to going biking
Another full day excursion, this time two cities. First stop is Pisa with its iconic tower and we will explore the area with the Duomo and Piazza del Duomo. After this we head on to the next city, the not to be missed Lucca, where we will rent bikes and explore the city by wheels. Back in Florence it will be possible to catch up on last minute sights before we the following day continue south.
All ways lead to rome
We leave Florence and continue our journey south towards Rome. On our way we visit Orvieto with its Underground city. This network of caves is a city under the city, and it only became known when a landslide in the end of the 70s exposed part of a tunnel. The extent of the network nobody could have imagined. Back on the surface we continue to Rome.
The heart of the empire
We start early with a visit to Campo de Fiori, literally Fields of Flowers, a lively local flower and vegetable market. Afterwards our guide show us this ancient city. The list of things to see is endless but leaving the Vatican for tomorrow we focus on the Colosseum and the Pantheon with time spare to throw coins in the Trevi Fountain and eat ice cream on the Spanish Steps.
The centre of Catholicism
Today is devoted to the Vatican. St. Peter’s Basilica is arguably the most important Renaissance building. You can spend days on this building alone but we will also take time for the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. On our last night in Rome we dine at a small Trattoria while we let it all sink in.
We drive to the airport in Rome where we will say good bye to our guide and fly back home.
