Let’s start the day the same way we ended yesterday’s – with a world-class-site.The Château de Versailles with it’s over 1300 rooms and surrounded by elaborate gardens remains France’s most famous palace. We take a guided tour of this bourgeois phantasy of king Louis XIV.In the afternoon we’re back to Paris and visit the world famous cathedral Sacre-Couer. From here it’s just a few meteres to the Place du Tertre, heart of the famous Montmartre quarter. Numerous painters fill up the space with their easels drawing portraits from visitors all over the world. A perfect place to end the day.
The Pont d’Avignon is the ideal place to get a picturesque view of the medieval masterpiece called Avignon. After strolling through Avignon we visit the beautiful village of Les Beaux. It is famous for it’s spectacular location set atop a rocky outcrop that is crowned with a ruined castle overlooking the plains to the south. The Carrieres de Lumieres is well known all over France for it’s spectacular multimedia show, projecting images of famous painters like Gaugin and Van Gogh.
From the many spectacular sites of Southern France the Pont du Gard is amongst the most famous. This three-tiered aqueduct was once part of a 50km-long system of water channels, built around 19 BC to transport water up to 20,000 cubic metres of water per day.Nearby Nîmes sets the stage for other important treasures from the Roman times like: Amphitheater, Maison Carrée and the temple of Diana.
During our drive from Avignon to Nice we visit some of the most iconic cities of the world famous Cote d’Azur. Our first stop get’s us to Aix en Provence. With it’s graceful boulevards, picturesque squares and the unique light of Southern France it epitomizes the beauty of the Cote d’Azur. Saint Tropez, the legendary meeting point of the rich and famous is the perfect place for a relaxing lunch brake. In Cannes, home of the famous film festival we stroll along the boulevard La Croisette before we arrive in Nice.
Today we take time to explore the beautiful coastal city of Nice. We start the day by “getting lost” in the sites, smells and sounds of the Cours Saleya, an open market for flowers and fruits. A walk through the old city leads us to the Rue du Vieux-Pont and Rue de la Prefecture which are the home of elegant mansions. Place Massena and the always busy harbour are also part of our city tour.We finish the day with a relaxing stroll along 4 km long Promenade des Anglais.
Today we visit the picturesque backcountry of the Cote d’Azur. We drive through the picture-postcard countryside to Grasse. The world capital of the perfume industry is surrounded by jasmine, centifolia-rose, mimosa, orange-blossom and violet fields. During a guided tour we discover the secrets in producing the magical fragances. Enjoying the stunning views of the Alps, valleys and Mediterranean coastline while we drive up to the perched medieval village of Gourdon. Saint Paul de Vence with cobblestone lanes and chic art galleries is our last stop before heading back to Nice.
