Welcome to Andalusia
Upon arrival in Granada our professional tour director greets us. After checking into the hotel we take a first city walk to explore the atmosphere of this classical Andalusian city.
After breakfast we visit the Alhambra, one of the most magical sites in all of Europe. The breathtaking palace of the Nasrid Rulers rises like a fantasy at the foot of the Sierra Mountain range. With it’s ornate gardens, waterfalls and delicate carvings it’s regarded as the prime example of Moorish architecture in all of Europe. After our extended guided tour we stroll through the narrow streets of Albaican, the oldest and most scenic part of Granada which was declared a world heritage site in 1994. We walk to Mirador de San Nicolas to photograph the sunset over Alhambra, and visit the gypsy caves of Sacromonte where the limestone dwellings have been inhabited since the 15th century.
The breathtaking beauty of Ronda
Like an aerie the spectacular located town of Ronda perches on an inland plateau riven by the 100m fissure of El Tajo gorge. An almost 300 ft high bridge links the old and new part of town. No wonder this fairytale setting has attracted many international artists. We explore this oldest town in Spain by foot.
Sevilla – the heart and soul of Andalusia
Sevilla, the unofficial capital of Andalusia combines everything what makes this part of Spain so enchanting. We discover the history and secrets behind this magical orange-scented city on an informative morning tour. What better way to start than the immense cathedral, one of the largest Christian churches in the world. It stands on the site of the great 12th-century Almohad mosque, with the mosque’s minaret (the Giralda) still towering beside it. The Plaza de America and the Pabellon Mudejar by the Maria Luisa Gardens are other stops along the way to the city center. Another highlight of Sevilla is the Alcazar Royal Palace, a fantastic example of the Moorish style with gorgeous tile mosaics, shady courtyards and Moorish and Renaissance gardens.
In the afternoon we visit the neighborhood of Santa Cruz, Cordobas most charming quarter.
After breakfast we enjoy our bus ride through the beautiful scenery of Andalusia to Cordoba. Along the way we make a few photo stops.
After arrival we visit the mesmerizing Mezquita. With it’s 856 arches it is a stunning reminder of the Moorish culture when Cordoba was the capital of Islamic Spain. Afterwards we explore the old part of the city where every street and place seems to tell a story of the glorious past.
Toledo, the former capital of Spain is picturesquely located above the river Tajo. The old town is a treasure chest of churches, museums, synagogues and mosques set in a labyrinth of narrow streets, plazas and inner patios. We stroll through this medieval jewel visiting its famous churches like Santo Tome and San Juan de los Reyes. In the afternoon after some “down time” in one of the many local cafes we set sail to the capital of Spain.
After breakfast we have the whole day to explore Spain’s capital. Amongst the many sites we visit are Plaza España, Puerta Del Sol and the Cibeles Fountain. After some relaxing time in the Retiro Park it’s time for the highlight of our Madrid – a specialized guided tour of the world famous Prado Museum. The museum houses the largest collection of European art in the world, including masterpieces by Velazquez, Goya and Rubens. Later we enjoy free time at the elegant Gran Via with its many shopping opportunities.
