London (4) – Bath (1) – Stratford-upon-Avon (2) – York (2)
Sit back and enjoy your flight from Canada to Spain.
Arriving in London we`ll ease into one of the most historic cities in the world. A two to three hours bus trip will take us past some of the key sites we`ll revisit in our time in London: St Paul`s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, Westminster, and the banks of the Thames.
The old and the new
The British Museum is devoted to human history, art and culture. Highlights include the Rosetta Stone, key to unlocking the secrets of the hieroglyphs, and the Mummy of Katebet. Afterwards, we’ll jump back into the 21st century with a Shoreditch street art tour. A local guide leads us through this dynamic part of the city, where contemporary artists, such as Banksy, leave their mark. The day ends with another slice of London history by following the foot steps of Jack the Ripper.
The world is a stage
The Globe –the name calls forth the setting in which dozens of now-famous characters first spoke their lines. Today is all about Shakespeare, and exploring the Globe Theatre, where Londoners were first introduced to the stories of Lady Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, the Merchant of Venice, and many others. We`ll see the restored theatre, and learn how different the theatre-going experience would have been in Shakespearean times.
We`ll start in the National Gallery where students come face to face with works by Rubens, Vermeer, Monet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Turner and more. Once we need some fresh air, we`ll escape to the water! The Thames is the lifeblood of London, and a `Duck Tour`will let us move from land to water, seeing the city from a different angle and learn how this river helped London grow into the metropolis it is today. Tonight, we`ll have dinner an a show, London-style, seeing Les Miserables at the Queen`s Theatre
We`re heading out of town – slipping away from hectic London, as so many Londoners would have done in the past. Set in rolling countryside, the city of Bath is a beautifully presevred city, known for its Roman baths. On the way to Bath, we`ll stop in Stonehenge. Over four thousand years old, this arrangement of massive stones encourages ref.
The Bard and the words
Today we`ll continue towards Stratford-Upon Avon, stopping first in Oxford, home to Oxford University, the oldest university in the English speaking world, and one of the leading universities worldwide. We`ll also stop at Warwick Castle, which stands on the banks of the river Avon and dates back nearly a thousand years.
We`ll spend today in Stratford-Upon-Avon, city of Shakespeare. We`ll visit his birthplace and take part in an interactive workshop to learn more about how he lived and worked. We`ll breathe new life into history, finding out about the man and the times in which he lived and produced some of the best-loved writing in English.
The Crazy Vaults
We`re on the move again, this time to York, a walled city that dates back to its founding by the Romans over two thousand years ago. On the way to York we`ll stop in Lincoln, whose cathedral was commissioned by William the Conqueror. We`ll spend the night in York, after a tour of the charming Old Town.
York Minister and ghosts
Waking up in York, we`ll head to the Minster. This magnificent building is one of Europe’s finest churches. Its Great East Window is the largest expanse of medieval stained glass on the world. We will also have the chance to climb the 275 steps to the top of the tower. Once we are back down, there will be time for lunch before we will get a bit of exercise doing a guided city tour by bike. We will have our dinner in a local pub before getting ready to get spooked with a evening ghost tour.
